Who doesn’t like chinese food? I think if you don’t like Chinese there must be something wrong with you. I love Chinese take out. I love how it’s kinda healthy yet not, how you feel like you have indulged yet you haven’t. I love mongolian beef, the sweet and chilli taste really works wonders for my pallet. This recipe is pretty easy and you can be done in 30-45mins.

Mongolian Beef

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Yield: 4-6

  1. 1 kg Sirloin steak (you can use any kind of steak)
  2. 1/2 cup corn starch - available in supermarkets
  3. 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  4. 1 cup soy sauce
  5. 1 cup brown sugar
  6. 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  7. 2 teaspoon hoisin sauce
  8. 4 cloves garlic, minced
  9. 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  10. 1 cup water
  11. 2 or 3 green onions chopped
  12. Dhania

Slice the steak into thin strips, place the corn flour in a bowl and add the steak, toss making sure all the meat is well coated. Shake off excess. Place in the fridge for 10 minutes to ensure the flour sticks to the steak.

In a pan, put some of the oil add the soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, hoisin sauce garlic, ginger, and water and stir. Cook over medium heat until reduced and thick. This should be about 20mins

While that thickens, heat the remaining oil in a pan and brown the steak taking care not to over cook the meat. I did this in 2 batches.

Add the meat to the sauce and stir well. Cook through for about 3 minutes toss in the dhania and garnish with the green onions
I served this with sweet and spicy coconut rice
